This case history outlines the building of a potentially very large Facilities Directorate Web site for an NHS Hospital trust which will cover multiple FM departments at multiple different sites using a third party, non - Electos web page template.
The basic template customisation was undertaken by Derek Virgin, of the Trusts Facilities Management department, who, interestingly, had relatively little experience of current web page development when the project started. Neverthless, Derek found that adding calls to the Electos "engine" was not a difficult task, and contributed a "non Electos" style A-Z index, and links to an SQL database as well.
Asckey Data Services provided the expertise to create the menu system, which took th e form of a "pop-out" menu system that could best represent the anticipated extensive structure of ths site while minimizing as far as possible the number of mouse clicks needed to get to any page.
Two Powerpoint presentations provide more details.
The first gives insight into the ambitions and design constraints for the web site, and the work done by Derek Virgin all as part of an exercise to learn CSS based page coding, and
The second goes through the technical steps needed to add the Electos material to a non Electos page template.
