Electos can easily be downloaded for running on your own PC, which needs to be Windows based, and with Microsoft IIS loaded. Electos is delivered as part of the Visual DataFlex development studio, and this can be downloaded free of charge for Personal Use only. This gives an ideal opportunity to explore Electos in depth – and you don’t need to know anything about Visual Dataflex, that’s just there to make Electos work!
With Electos on your own PC you can explore the Electos page source in depth, learn how to create multiple web sites, experiment with page customisation, download and install the free Electos templates, or try your hand at customising third party templates.
If you do get into template customisation and come up with something you would want to use on your hosted web site, then if we are the hosting provider we just need the new page code to put into place. In fact, for simple changes, you can upload these direct to your Electos hosted site yourself. It is as easy as that – but we would expect you to have moved to a commercial VDF Development Licence as you would be using it for commercial purposes in that case.
Your own Web Design service
Running Electos on your own PC is an ideal way for someone with Web page design talents to create dynamic and flexible web site designs for clients.
However, many of those with the technical and artistic talents to create good web sites do not have 24*7 web site publishing facilities. As well as our individual site hosting, we can provide your own dedicated Electos server, either on a cost sharing basis to give you the lowest possible start up costs, or as a fully dedicated leased server with no restriction as to what you do with it - so long as its legal and within our standard bandwidth limits!
Our cost sharing option starts at £300 per site, and reduces as the number of sites installed increases.
