Running your own site
Unless you are running your own Web server running 365/24, you will need someone to host your web site on a web server that supports Electos. This is a service that we specialise in.
Here’s the usual sequence for commissioning a hosted Electos web site.
Trial Site
We can create a trial site for you, using one of the standard Electos templates. This site will be fully available on www, but via a temporary “demo.asckey.net” url This will give you access to the Electos Studio where you do all the page creation, and to the viewable website. Don’t worry about the template for now – any work you do in the trial site will work just as well in the final site template that you choose, or have developed.
Full Publication
The next step is to sign up to installation and a hosting contract. We will then organise getting your Web Site “domain name” registered if you don’t have one already, or amending your domain to point to the new Electos site.
Also included is a half day training at our premises (near Huntingdon) if you can get to us. But Electos is really easy to use for creating straightforward information pages, with the possibilities for more complex page content a matter of experience – just like using any new “word processing” system.
Simple Customisation
Even in that trial site you can experiment with Customisation. Depending on the details of the particular design, you can change the images at the top of the page, and the Company name (this is not a tutorial, but look in Control Panel/Web Site Parameters and web page/parameters).
If you know HTML, you can even change the template code (“Design”), but be very careful - if you break it, you are on your own
Tip:- save a copy of any file you alter before you alter it!
Full Customisation
If you need more extensive customisation, then you will need to talk to us – or to any web page designer in order to develop a template to your detailed needs. If your designer is unfamiliar with Electos we will be happy to talk to him or her, or we can explore any of the customisation options as above with you. Meantime, you can start creating content confident that the material created will not need re-doing once the customised design is in place.
